In summary today we are going to summarize all the looks that nailed it in the year 2015.
We have seen the glitz and glamour on the red carpets and the street fashion on our casual lounging areas. Some trends were a hit while others should be taken off the streets and never resurrected. There are trends that didn’t last and those that made a huge comeback.
We had the Kitenge, which is a literally African print cloth. This started out in Nigeria but in a short while the entire African continent has caught the fever. From the waxed print to dye, all of them were on high demand. Every designer included them on their designs and some even exported the styles. Most people wore the kitenge frock to weddings, cocktails, Blankets and Wine and even the runway.
The sun glasses, seeing as most of the year was hot, the sunglasses never went out of fashion. It did not stay the same either seeing as this year we saw aviation shades, the cat eye shades and not forgetting the colored reflector glasses that soon became a must have for all the ladies in town.
On the red carpet this year, the ASFA’s 2015 we saw a lot of sexy sheer see through gowns all inspired by the Queen Beyonce at the MET Gala 2015 and Kim Kadarshian. The bold collar long gowns have also been a thing.
Lace has been like icing on everyone’s cake. Dinner dresses have had lace on them from wedding gowns, dinner gowns, office wear and event party clothes. Chiffon wasn’t left out either, Chiffon and Kitenge married well and featured in most girls’ wardrobes.
When it comes to hair, one thing stood out the most. The long colored braids, which shocked us when they started but shortly they were a must have among the teens and celebrities. Artists like Sheebah, Lydia Jazmine, Naira Ali, Irene Ntale and many more embraced it and rocked those colours. Other socialites like Judith Heard and Sheila Gashumba were seen with this hip trend.
The ripped jeans stopped being something to be ashamed of to being the only attire with a major party thrown for them. This year December, the blogger Ashburg Kato hosted the 1st ever ripped jeans party in Uganda at Silk Lounge. Every socialite and party animal had to, just had to buy or make ripped jeans. The party was a success and so was the trend.
Forget high heels, 2015 was all about sneakers and wedge sneakers. Nike had a campaign of colored sneakers for all occasions. Then for a smooth transition from tomboy to a lady, there came the wedge sneakers. It was hip and cud be won to a party and outdoor events. It was cute and fashionable.
We wouldn’t be talking about 2015 if we didn’t mention the trend of selfies. This took over all year and ii should add it wasn’t only ladies that were crazy about the trend but men too. We had selfies, belfies and the selfie sticks.
