2018 is coming to an end and we have quite had some drama, entertainment and sorrow too in this year. It is on this note that we have gathered the top five men who have ruled the entertainment scene and dominated the news stands throughout the year..
Mowzey Radio (RIP)
The late Mowzey Radio is a true legend in Uganda’s entertainment industry. He is among the few Ugandan musicians who have been talked about after their deaths and more to that, he has been highly praised after his death more than he was when he was still alive. No concert has happened this year without musicians singing at least a line of his songs or paying tribute to him.
Straight from Golden Heart, Kyarenga, Omwoyo and Saba Saba legendary hit just to mention a few. Lillian Mbabazi, the mother of his two children dedicated her whole performance last week during the ASFA’S to him by performing only Goodlyf songs. Radio has been among the most searched this year on google and his songs among the most requested both on radio and TV stations and his death was like a wild fire not only in Uganda but the rest of the world with condolence messages coming in from all corners of the world.
There was even a mega concert tribute concert organized at Kololo independence grounds to celebrate his life where several musicians put aside their individual dereferences to share the same stage for a good cause.
His switch to politics was what resurrected Bobi Wine’s music career that had started deteriorating after winning the re-elction to become the Kyadondo East Memeber of parliament. Bobi Wine played his cards well and this year, he has been the most loved artiste especially after combining music with his ‘People Power’ movement. If you needed peace in 2018, you had to be on Bobi Wine’s side. We have seen some people put in their places after attacking Bobi Wine. That aside, he made history when he attracted the biggest crowd by a Ugandan artiste at his ‘Kyarenga’ concert at Busabala recently.
Levixone also didn’t believe he could achieve what he did a few weeks ago. He managed to pull one of the biggest crowds at one of the biggest venues in Uganda. Cricket Oval in Lugogo is not just like any of your usual venues. It has humbled quite a number of musicians including Patoranking and Diamond Platinumz but Levixone pulled big crowds. If you ask him if he can go back, his answer would be ‘NO’.
He challenged himself and it paid off proving that God indeed is there. We have put him among this year’s best men because with his style of music, no one expected him to get the crowds he did and this was a sign that gospel music in Uganda has one of the front seats as he made history.
Hate him or love him, Bebe Cool still finds ways of staying relevant at the top. He started off the year with his list of people he thought deserved respect last year, It became the talk of town. He was the only one who managed to distance himself from Bobi Wine when the rest of the artistes sided with him to ride on the band wagon.
Even after being hit with bottles at cricket oval during the Swangz Avenue 10 year music celebrations, somehow, Bebe Cool remained the most talked about artiste in Uganda even when he spent three months abroad and his win at AFRIMA was what summed it all. Not to mention the Golden Heart concert at Kololo Airstrip that attracted a mammoth crowd including H.E the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni where most of the proceeds went to taking care of five children with heart complications.
This has been King Saha’s year. He has never been consistent before like he has this year. His ‘Biri biri’ song has become an anthem in Uganda, same as ‘Very Well’, ‘On My Way’ and ‘Mpa love’ among others. If we are to award, he would definitely be the artiste of the year with the most hit songs in a calendar yer.
He has out shined most artistes who have invited him on their concerts and his upcoming concert in January 2019 will surely be a sold out one.
