Ugandan actress, filmmaker, content creator, scriptwriter and a motivational speaker among Nana Kagga might never use Uber following a nasty experience she allegedly went through together with a friend.
Kagga and her friend Acaye Elizabeth Pamela were attacked on Friday night after a pick up from a night out.
“On Friday 29th March at Approximately 1:00 am, we ordered an UBER taxi through Omara Daniel Pkwiiyulli phone from 110 0n seventh. Immediately we got in, the driver proceeded to turn on a video of kakande; allegedly performing miracles. I politely asked him to turn it off and replay it when we have exited his taxi. He acted deaf until Nana reiterated the same. Then, he proceeded to deliberately drive the car at snail speed on a traffic-less morning,” Narrated Acaye on her Facebook account
Acaye proceeded to say that the driver ignored their concern until Nana assured him of her knowledge of their taxis to slow the drive and charge more. “He acts irritated and announces that we are not his ideal customers and that he will not continue the ride.” She adds.
Acaye narration further indicates that the driver increased the speed of the car
and deliberately and parked the car in that alley at the corner that leads into and out of Namuwongo area which is known as a notorious rape, murder and robbery corner. He threatened to beat them and do all manner of harm to them. “He opens his boot and brings out a sinister looking coiling wire which he starts to brandish. Nana is having none of this and calls to question his alleged love for Christ and joke of an attempt to evangelize us.”
Another car, posing as a random taxi cab appeared from the Namwongo area and parks in front of the uber car they had travelled in and its driver asked what was going on and after they narrated to him what had happened, the new driver proceeded and carried Nana towards his car in an abduction style.
Acaye added that after an argument with the men, the second driver removes a stick from his car and begins flogging Nana. “I step in to intervene between attempts at negotiation. But not in time to prevent this herdsman’s rod from connecting with the side of Nana’s face. She begins to shut down. I heard something pop. She states in that moment that she thinks something has broken in her ear. These monsters immediately enter their cars and speed away.”
According to Daniel, their friend who ordered for them the UBER ride, information indicated that they were driving around Bugolobi for more than an hour before UBER erased the ride information from their system when he reported but good enough, he had already documented the ride and phone calls.
From this experience, they have since then called upon Ugandans to boycott Uber rides. “Dear Ugandans, let us boycott them until they can guarantee our safety.” Read another part of Acaye’s post
