The Uganda Entertainment awards had lots of surprises, having started a little late than expected, the ceremony also saw sms one signed artistes walk away with awards in their respective categories. Apass walked away with the best dance hall artiste, Levixone was voted the best gospel artiste while Douglas Lwanga took the best male entertainment Tv presenter.
According to the director of Uganda Entertainment Awards Vincent Nsubuga, the main aim of coming up with these awards is to create a platform for all entertainers not only to be rewarded for their efforts but to also encourage them work harder. “I saw that there was something missing in the entertainment industry. If Nigerians have MTV or Channel O, why then wouldn’t we have our own version of the same awards that reward the deserved entertainers for their contribution towards the entertainment industry. This would also help them work even harder.” He said.
Other notable winners of the evening include David Lutalo who overcame Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine, Jose Chameleon, Kenzo and Radio and Weasel for the Male artiste of the year category while Sheeba was voted the female artiste. Music video went to Sitya Loss, Neesim took the producer of the year, Best Tv programme went to Sqoop on sqoop and Urban Tv took the best Tv station category, ‘Kuzala Kujaganaby Irene Namatovu scooped the Song of the year while Deception is the best Tv programme and one of the actresses Sarah Kisawuzi is the first UEA actress of the year.
For the first time in Uganda, the night’s emcee Nigerian renowned TV presenter E-Hiz took to the stage at 10pm clad in fitting black pants, black suade jacket and a white shirt. He joked about Ugandan men and pulled some dance strokes to keep the crowd fired up. He even engaged in different topics about the Ugandan society throughout the entire night that one would think he’s been In Uganda for a long time contrary to the few hours since his arrival.
The red carpet moment was spectacular as everyone was dressed to kill. Celebrities like city tycoon Jack Pemba, former miss Uganda beauty pageants like Bizoux, Leah Kalanguka and the just recent crowned Zahara Nakiyaga were seen smartly dressed so did other guests like the Queen mother Best Kemigisa and other socialites
However, most of the winners did not make it to the ceremony as they had other obligations elsewhere or perhaps, the long distance affected them just like it did with the revelers. Some of the winners who didn’t show up include Ann Kansiime (best female comedian), Salvado(best male comedian), King Saha(R&B), CBS (Best Radio station), Sam Bagenda (Best actor), Flavia Tumusiime(best female radio presenter),and Goodlyf (Best group) among others.
Performances were made by Minayo, Toniks and Maurice Kirya but it was Reggae maestro Madoxx Ssematimba who wowed the audience with his tracks Oluyimba and Easy
Having started late, the ceremony ended at 3am with the last award given out with just a handful of people still around. In fact, David Lutalo declined to sing because of the few people around.
