As he celebrates his 40th birthday today the 1st of September, veteran Reggae, Dancehall and Afrobeat artiste Bebe Cool survived getting serious injuries by the bottles, stones among other things which were thrown at him by angry ‘people power’ fans who are mad at him over his silence on his fellow musician Bobi Wine’s current situation.
This happened while Bebe was performing at the Swangz All Star Concert that took place at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Friday the 31st of August.
After performances from other headlining artistes like Ziggy Dee, A Pass, Vinka, Michael Ross, Vampino, Winnie Nwagi, Voltage Music, Rabadaba among others, it was time for Bebe Cool to perform but unfortunately the rowdy crowd didn’t allow him to even finish performing one song.
Taking to the stage with all the energy, Bebe began his performance singing ‘Love You Every Day’ and this is when bottles and stones were repeatedly thrown at him by fans as they shouted ‘Free Bobi Wine’ and ‘vaayo’ which is Luganda for ‘go away’.
This forced the self pro-claimred Big Size’ to halt his performance which didn’t come easy as he first stood still and braved the things the crowd was throwing at him, before security forced him off the stage in an attempt to protect him from any injuries.
With the help of the security, Bebe managed to walk off stage back to the VIP section. On reaching, shirtless Bebe Cool kissed his wife Zuena which saw fans cheer loudly as they watched them swap saliva
This uproar lasted over 20 minutes before Benon Mugumbya the founder Swangz Avenue took to the stage to calm down the crowd saying they were scaring Jamaican Reggae singer Tarrus Riley, the concerts main headliner who was about to perform. Sanity was later restored when Tarrus took to the stage and fans gave him a warm welcome
This is the second time Bebe Cool is having an altercation with angry fans while performing. He was verbally attacked and thrown off stage recently while he performed at club Ambiance in Masaka at the Dj Shiru Experience show.
