Sad news as another Cameroonian player dies on the pitch during a match. The Cameroon international Patrick Ekeng who went to last year’s Africa Cup of Nations, fell to the ground just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute during a Romanian league match while playing for his club Dinamo Bucharest.
The 26-year-old came on as a 63rd-minute substitute against Viitorul but collapsed just seven minutes later bring back horrific memories of another Cameroonian player Marc-Vivien Foé who died in similar circumstances in June 2003.
According to local media reports,Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the 26-year old player but he was pronounced dead at Floreasca Emergency Hospital less than two hours later reportedly of a heart attack.
Dynamo were leading the match 3-2 as Ekeng who only joined Dinamo in January and was making just his seventh appearance for the club when he collapsed in the Romanian league match which was being broadcast live by local television stations.
Tributes are already flowing in for the player who also played for Le Mans, Rodez and Lausanne-Sport with his biggest club Spanish side Cordoba which he joined in July 2014.
Ekeng made his Cameroon debut against DR Congo last January, before making his second and last international appearance against South Africa just days later.
