The soccer family in Uganda can be rest assured, guaranteed that a children’s academy will start next year. Under the watch of Rayco Garcia, the director of RG Football Academy, operations will commence around January next year, with the support of UNICEF and the Government of Uganda. Garcia confirmed this at a press conference hosted to usher home the Barcelona legends at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala.
According to Garcia, the last check is to secure land for setting up premises. This though he says is sorted, as he says the prime minister promised to offer the land, and he is bent on fulfilling this promise.
Coach Javier Villena Mulero said the Barcelona legends are not just here to play the game against the Cranes legends; their major project is setting up the football academy.
“This game is for strengthening the relationship with Uganda, and importantly, to help establish the academy to help the children develop talent” Mulero told press.
James Tumusiime, the Chairman of Uganda Tourism Board, the major hosts of this event mentioned that the legends visit will promote and market the country in terms of national identity, which will promote tourism and boost the sports in Uganda.
“These legends are well known people, and the fact that they have been here is endorsing us to the world out there” Tumisiime stated.
The Barcelona legends extended their appreciation to the president for welcoming them, showing a lot of interest in their vision and continuously supporting them.
