Billy Ocean arrived in Uganda last evening ahead of his highly anticipated show tonight at the Kampala Serena hotel.
The soulful topped charts during 1980’s, following the success of Suddenly and its main single, “Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)”. The song was such a hit that the title and lyrics were changed for different regions of the world. The song won him the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 1985 Grammy Awards.
Billy has achieved extraordinary success both as an artist and songwriter. Born in Trinidad, he settled in London’s East End when he was just seven years old.
According to comedian Alex Muhangi who is one of the organizers of the show, ‘There is an appetite for high end and upscale social entertainment… we will bring it to the sophisticated and exposed Ugandan that doesn’t mind having expensive fun if he believes there is a good cause attached to it.’
All roads lead to the Kampala Serena Hotel tonight.
