Until yesterday morning, 80-plus-year old Matthew Bukenya was the executive secretary and presided over the release of the 2015 primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results. His 20-year reign of the executive secretary that started in 1997 finally came to an end.
After clocking 60 years, Bukenya retired as an accountant in UNEB but he was recalled in 1997 to take over from Livingstone Ongom as the executive secretary UNEB which he has executed tirelessly up to date.
The Uganda National Examinations Board is the national assessment body in Uganda. The UNEB Secretariat is headed by the Executive Secretary, who is the Chief Executive Head and the accounting officer of the Board to ensure continued improvement of Quality, Validity and Reliability of Assessment and Evaluation of Curriculum and Learners Achievements.
Daniel Nokrach Odongo has been appointed as the new executive secretary for the UNEB according to a statement from their public relations officer Hamis Kaheru.
“The appointment followed a competitive and transparent recruitment process in which he emerged the best evaluated candidate out of eight who were interviewed for the job,” Kaheru said.
Currently Odongo has been the Deputy Secretary in Charge of Secondary School Examinations at UNEB, a position he has held from 2004. He has risen through the ranks, having joined UNEB at the level of Assistant Secretary in 1990.
