Business people have been urged to maximize the power of social media to grow their business, as it is the future of communication and networking. This was yesterday at the Social Media Summit held at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.
The well attended event got a number of business brands in the house, with several presentations that were aimed at enlightening them about how powerful social can be in boosting their works. The slogan, “social means business” was an emphasis of the core of the conference.
According to Collin Asiimwe, one of the organizers, there is more to social media than chatting and gaining followers.
“Social media has a lot to do with making money, for both government and private bodies. It is an opportunity for new businesses to grow their baselines, and old ones to cement them” he said.
Key among the major presentations was Marvin Bisanga’s “the rise of picture storytelling and optimization across platforms”, which called upon business people to be in proximity with the clientele, which is on the media.
“Make it a point that when someone googles something in your line of work, your company is seen, and your message is attractive” he told the crowd.
He also advised business people to make their own media like websites excellent before venturing into social media, because if own media is shallow, then the public will not trust the social media either
There were also case study presentations from UMEME, National Water and Sewerage Corporation and Centenary Bank.
The event had a number of sponsors, with Uganda Communications Commission as the title sponsor. Others were UNRA, Obulamu, Airtel, PC Tech Magazine, and NBS TV among others.
