Last year Ragamuffin and Dancehall singer Cinderella Sanyu commonly known as Cindy beat other equally talented singers like Juliana Kanyomozi, Irene Ntale, Avril (Kenya), Victoria Kimani (Kenya), Fikeraddis Nekatebeb (Ethiopia) as she emerged best female artiste in Eastern Africa at the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima). Big congratulations to the ‘Ayokya’ hit maker.
Having closed 2016 with that success, she recently released yet another Dancehall tune dubbed ‘Run This City’, a self appraisal tune which she sang in English, Patois, Luganda and Swahili languages.
‘Run This City’ the song
Cindy starts the high-tempo song asking the selector to play it again and then introduces the song straight away with the chorus that is full of self appraisal lyrics like calling out people to come see how she ‘runs this city’ with her style and booty that every man wants to hold. She later starts the first verse calling out the man she loves in need of showing him things and dance moves he has never seen before because of the plenty of love she has for him that no other girl can ever give him. She kindly begs the man not to delay.
She keeps on the pace in the second verse but this time, she is heard throwing some serious Kiswahili lyrics asking the guy to stop playing games and draw nearer to her so she can show him the abundant love she has for him because she is not joking but serious.
The 3rd and final verse is filled with more self appraisal lines where she is heard saying that when the song is nice it has to play twice and saying thank you to her team ‘Cindicates’ and how she represents for the girls every day which also concludes the song.
Basing on the fact that Cindy has through nthe years been one of the top female singers whose songs never get off fans’ play lists and having won an award at AFRIMA last year, a self appraisal song like this is suitable for this period and it is expected to join the previous ones she has released like ‘Still Standing’, ‘Tempo’ featuring Kenya’s Dufla, ‘Sample Dat’ among many others.
