City Oil Basketball Club ‘Signs’ Falcons’s Steven Omony.

  • Former MVP Steven Omony set to join defending Champions City Oil Basketball Team next season.
  • Upcoming season shaping up to be very interesting as Oilers look forward to defend title once again.

As the basketball season draws nearer and the transfer window is coming to a close, it is rumored that Falcons’ captain and also the Captain of the Uganda_national_basketball the Silverbacks Steven Omony is moving to the league champions City oil.

Over the years we have witnessed the success story of a team that started in first division mainly made up of members of the Wazee team Uganda, play its way to become the first division champions. This saw them join the National_Basketball_League as amateurs but little did they know that the new team would be champions. With the backing of their sponsor City Oil one of the leading fuel and spare parts companies in Uganda, they had nothing standing in their way.

They have since gone on to win the championship four times in a row from 2012-2016 consecutively and are referred to as the most successful team the basketball fraternity has ever seen in recent times. Discipline and a well organized management team have seen this team through to the finals in the previous years. Attribute also goes to the fact that the team has a steady flow of money from their sponsors which other teams in the league can only dream of.

This has helped the City Oilers technical team fish from a rather small pond of professional players and pull some of the greatest players of all time to their squad. Over the years, we have witnessed the likes of Komakech Ben, Jimmy-Enabu, Jeff Omondi, Brian Sentongo and Otim Jonah move from their original clubs to join the league champions. It is speculated that Steven Omonyi’s move to City oil is in a bid to fill the gap that Kami Kabenge(USPA MVP 2014 &2015) has left behind after going to Rwanda.

However, Omonyi’s eminent move is causing a lot of controversy in the basketball circles. Fans and followers of the sport are worried that the league will be boring if oilers have all the stars. Others are insinuating that it will be hard for Head Coach Mandy Juruni who will have a hard time managing the players since it is a combination of too many franchise players who have big egos. Steven has always been a leader; is it time that he took the back foot now?

On a lighter note others are looking at it like a standard  Kevin_Durant move from Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC) to the Golden State Warriors They say “If you can’t beat them, then join them.” Whatever the case, the upcoming 2017 season is shaping up to be epic. As always Chano8 will keep you posted on the major transfers before the transfer window closes on 25th February 2017.
