Two months ago, Club held the Club Music Video awards where Ugandan local artistes were awarded for their music videos that managed to win in 18 categories. As if that was not enough, they launched the annual Club Dj Awards Championships and Djs are to win trophies and cash prizes but after a battle.
However, there are no nominations for these awards but it is the Djs skills in mixing and the crowd’s reaction that will keep them in the competitions which are apparently on regional level before the Grand finale on 21st May. Yesterday, Djs in the western Uganda districts namely Mbarara, Bushenyi, Masindi, Kanungi, Kasese and Kasese tussled it out at the Mbarara based Ice Longue and the winner won a trophy plus instant cash.
On 12th May, the Dj battle will head to Eastern Uganda in Mbale at Club El Tanjia where the winner will win also take a trophy and instant cash. The final battle like mentioned above will take place on 21st May at Lido Beach, Entebbe where only one winner will take home the main Dj trophy on top of a 2 million Ug Shs grand prize.
“Our forte as a brand is music, we believe in the Ugandan DJ industry as a whole. Our span of interest goes from musicians’ right to DJ’s. To us, as long as people are skilled in music in any way, our role is to give them whatever support we can to take them to the next level.” said John Katete, the Brand Manager of Club.
Uganda DJ Awards founded by Anthony Yawe also known as DJ Tony in 2008 are marking 10 years under the sponsorship from Nile Breweries.
