“This is my first award in life (shakes head).Five years back I was stealing phones on streets but now am stealing awards.” Were the words fast rising artiste Daxx Kartel (Omuryerubah) spoke after receiving his first ever award of Best Afrobeat Song in his entire music career. This all happened at Theatre Labonita located in Kampala City where the 2015-2016 Zzina Awards organised by 100.2 FM Galaxy FM were successfully held.
The awarding ceremony saw Daxx Kartel the famous ‘Baala’ hit singer real names Sebunya Sebyaala Suleiman born in Masajja- Wakiso District be the biggest winner winning more than 0ne award. As the awarding ceremony went ahead with other artistes receiving their awards too, Daxx was called back on Stage to receive yet another award of ‘Best Rising Star’ a category that had other artistes like Victor Kamenyo, Fefe Busi, SK Simeon, Beenie Gunter and Winnie Nwagi.
Accompanied by his team called Wizard Order, Daxx Kartel excitedly rushed to the stage to pick the award not knowing that even the 3rd awaited him. It did happen that he was for the 3rd time called back on stage to receive the 3rd award of ‘Song of the Year’. His Baala hit song won Nutty Neithan’s ‘Bakuwe Kyonywa’, Radio, Weasel and Irene Ntale’s ‘Bikola’, King Saha’s ‘Gundeeze’, Goodlyfe’s ‘Juicy’, Bobi Wine and Nubian Li’s ‘Kigwa Leero’, Chris Evans and Rema’s ‘Linda’ and A Pass ft Lilian’s ‘Memories’ to be number one.
