Denis Onyango is the reigning best player on the African continent and this is because he beat two other footballers to the trophy in this year’s CAF awards that were held some months back, becoming the only Ugandan to have gotten this award.
But as it looks, the Uganda ‘shot stopper’ is slated to be selected as the best goalkeeper in Africa after a recent poll that was carried out on social media.
He was able to get 50% of the votes cast, beating Morocco’s Ayman Majid who got 34% and Ayman Mathlouthy from Tunisia who came 3rd with 15%.
“A big thanx to everyone who voted and believed in me, merry Christmas and a happy new year.” He posted on his social media.
The total number of votes that were cast were 6,605 and voting closed on 24th December 2017.
He will be announced in a grand ceremony that will be communicated soon and he will be adding this precious trophy to those he won at the beginning of this year.
Dennis Masindi Onyango was shortlisted on the CAF 11 selected team of the season and this came after he helped his club Mamelodi Sundowns win the Champions league as well as the South African league last season. That aside, he was also behind the cranes qualification to the first African Cup of Nations cup after 39 years and also named among the best 10 goalkeepers in the world.
