Details Of What Was Discussed In The ‘Secret’ Meeting Between Entertainers And President Museveni Emerge

On Wednesday, several entertainers were invited to meet president Museveni to discuss quite a number of issues perturbing them.

The meeting included musicians, comedians, film makers, drama actors, promoters, writers and book publishers, artistes’ dream Saccos and other different stakeholders of the industry.

The agenda for this meeting was not known but it is believed that the main reason they went to state house was to get money, according to our reliable source who also revealed to us that it is the music promoters who benefited more from the meeting.

It is said that the promoters got a compensation of Ug Shs 1 billion for the loses they made during the cancelation of Bobi Wine’s concerts since last year while singer and actress Mariam Ndagire received Ug Shs 600 million for her projects which are not yet known although she denied having received the money

For the artistes, it is said they will receive Shs 200 million which is supposed to go to their SACCO.

According to our source, many who attended the meeting, disapproved of the fact that Mariam Ndagire as an individual received more money than the entire music industry SACCO

Among those who attended the meeting include musicians Ykee Benda, Mariam Ndagire, Dr Tee and Sophie Gombya, Hon Nakiwala Kiyingi the Minister of State For Youth and Children Affairs, Juliana Akoryo, the commissioner, Andrew Benon Kibuuka, president Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS), James Wasula, CEO UPRS, Wisdom Kaye and Anita Seruwagi of Artistes’ Union, Bugingo Hannington, comedians association, Tony Sempijja, Filmmaker, promoters Dick Sewankambo and Katongole, General Salim Saleh, Big Gen Elly Kayanja and Lt Gen Angina among others.

Among the proposals and outcomes discussed included that unnecessary taxation of artistes’ performances shall be scrapped and outdoor shows should end by 1 AM utmost not midnight as is.

More to that, a fully fledged audio studio will be furnished and availed to the entertainment industry. The artistes Dream Sacco will be boosted with Shs 200 million, copyright law will be enforced and perpetrators punished and bouncers working in the entertainment industry be given a full training.
