Today all roads lead to Kyadondo Rugby club where fans, relatives and friends of DJ Gero will have a special memorial tribute night. The former Platinumz DJ founder will be remembered for an outstanding contribution he made to rugby and the entertainment industry as a DJ.
DJ Gero real names Gerald Odong Majela a former passed on after he collapsed at Mulago hospital just moments after driving himself there for a routine medical check up.
He is said to have succumbed to a problematic heart condition and never recovered in 2009.
Majela formerly played rugby with Kenya’s Impala before playing for Kyadondo based Buffaloes on return to Uganda. It is believed his health complications resulted from the weight he had accumulated since the position he played required big/heavy players.
However it is not from rugby that Majela got his countrywide fame but rather on account of his great skills at the turn tables. That is how the pseudo name ‘DJ Gero’ came about.
The ‘big man’ as he is fondly referred to by peers will be remembered for his unique talent which brought untold joy to many revellers over the years especially at Kyadondo Rugby club under the theme.
“Gero Still Alive, Celebrating a legend”
DJ Gero will be remembered by the rugby community as having the uncanny ability to fuse music and rugby in a fantastic mix and some of his ideas behind the Platinum DJs have now come to life.
There will be a fundraising drive with all proceeds going to DJ Gero’s family and Platinum DJs will be the hosts.
