Are you also confused by ‘IRAWNA’s’? The fact is, with the number of international awards we have seen or heard of through the years, the ‘IRAWMA’S’ which stands for ‘International Reggae and World Music Awards’ are awards we bet many Ugandans know about even after happening for 35 editions.
Anyway we have a big reason to actually know and follow them now especially after our very own singer Eddy Kenzo won the award of ‘Best African Entertainer’ at these awards’ 36th edition. The winners were announced at a red carpet ceremony on Sunday the 18th of March 2018 at the University of Chicago, USA.
Winning this award wasn’t easy as Kenzo was nominated in a tight category which also had top African artistes like WizKid and Davido from Nigeria and Stonebwoy and Shata Wale from Ghana.

As we talk now, the ‘Sitya Loss’ hit maker is on his way to to Los Angeles, USA where the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards are happening tonight. He is nominated for Favourite African Star’ alongside rapper Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), athlete Caster Semenya (South Africa), Davido (Nigeria), comedian Emmanuella (Nigeria), and Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania).
Established in 1982, the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA’s) aim to honour and acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of Reggae and World Music artists including: performers, musicians, songwriters, and promoters.
The preparations for the 37th edition of these are underway and they are slated to be held in Kingston, Jamaica in May 2019 which will also be a celebration of the 50 years of Reggae Music. Who knows, many be another Uganda artistes could take it again.
