Last Saturday the 16th of December, Eddy Kenzo hosted his fans at the Munyonyo based Jahazi Pier where he held his long awaited and hyped Airtel sponsored ‘Eddy Kenzo Live In Concert’ amid lots of fans who represented in large numbers, with some coming arriving way too early even before the gates of the venue were opened.
Going by the photos we saw, the concert was a success but prior to show time, Kenzo took to his Facebook page and wrote a public announcement prohibiting media houses from live streaming or broadcasting the event live under the reasons that reporting the event live downplays the value of the official event’s footage.
“No media company is allowed to stream/broadcast live tonight’s concert (Eddy Kenzo live in concert 2017). We have invested alot to make this event possible. The event is going to be recorded and uploaded on my official YouTube channel. I politely urge every media house that does this to desist from doing it as this down plays the value of the footage recorded. You are however allowed to record and broadcast later. Whoever is caught live streaming will face the consequences. Thank you N God bless you let’s have a blast one Uganda.” Eddy Kenzo shared on his official Facebook Page.
This was statement was given both a positive and negative reception as his thousands of followers even non followers supported him where as there were those who rubbished this announcement.
Majority of who those who were ok with Kenzo’s statement claimed if the concert was to be streamed live, Eddy Kenzo was going to lose out on attendees where as the critics were saying Eddy Kenzo has become too proud and is forgetting the media which has built him to that extent.
However, the no live streaming command was not only aimed at media houses but even the revellers themselves and whoever was caught breaching that rule faced the penalty according to Kenzo’s disclaimer
On the same note, Ugandans were thrown in frenzy while commenting on that post throwing all kinds of insult to Kenzo not forgetting those who were in support of Kenzo’s denial of live streaming at his concert.
