Popular musician and Golden band member Ronald Mayinja has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador for Climate Change in Uganda.
Mayinja was unveiled yesterday by Mr Timothy Mugerwa, the East African regional coordinator for the Africa Climate Reality Project (ACRP) while addressing journalists in Kampala ahead of the World Environment Day which happens on the 5th of June every year.
Ronald Mayinja is expected to use music to rally Ugandans to conserve the environment and he welcomed his new post saying that he is ready to do everything possible to see that he spearheads this campaign.
Ronald Mayinja, famed for political songs such as ‘Tulikubunkenke’ and ‘Africa’ among others said that he will also release songs about climate change and also lead a campaign of visiting different towns to form environment clubs for youths through which a bottom-up approach can be adopted to conserve nature.
“I am ready to traverse the country to mobilize Ugandans through music and also form environment clubs at least at LC level in most of the towns,” he said.
Ugandans have been called upon to lead the fight against climate change by defending the wetlands and the entire eco-system from possible destruction.
