It is not a cup of tea to review Ugandan music videos because usually the best one can do is criticizing as opposed to critiquing. But today, there is something very captivating that has made me loosen up and throw about a few superlatives ‘off the hook’ like my colleagues usually say.
Now this is going to be a little embarrassing too for we have in our hands a master piece and work of genius that has produced a magnificently beautiful and crystal clear video whose quality I have almost failed to relate to Ugandans baring in mind our association to mediocrity and compromising with quality even when resources are available.
Well the recent debate of whether Ugandan DJs shun our local talent (in preference for West African and Jamaican music) or whether Uganda artistes just produce bogus material seems to have had an immediate and effective impact for Ugandans are now producing quality videos we can be proud of.
The subject of quality or lack of it has been discussed at length in relation to music videos done by local singers or video directors. And many artistes seem to have picked a leaf from Bebe Cool the instigator of the debates after his ‘Love You Everyday’ was passed fit for consumption by the international audience.
Many Singers like Jose Chameleone (Wale wale, Milliano), Eddie Kenzo (Be Happy) Bobi Wine (Naku Miss), Irene Ntale (Kabugo), Radio and Weasel (Street lights) and others followed suit and started investing heavily on quality videos from both abroad and here at home.
So Ugandan Artistes started thinking and investing big and the results are impressive as manifested in this particular work of art by South African producer/director Nani Artistic who is the brain behind Fille and Ray Signature’s latest work ‘Gwe Asinga’.
The song, whose audio was produced by the evergreen D-King, is a promising mellow RnB flow and looks to go places on the airwaves although the magnificent video is threatening to over shadow the fantastic audio piece done by D-King.
I am still trapped in-between either appreciating the quality of video or audio production more but will settle for both as the concepts are all fascinating and richly absorbing.
The video has a wedding story-line inspired by the love message in the lyrics where the two singers vow to love each other till death as they mean the world to each other with praises heaped at each other for being the best of the rest.
In the story, the groom sets for the wedding in a Mercedes Benz which breaks down en route to the venue where a priest awaits. They finally make it on foot after a brief scare and tension-packed moment for the bride and her entourage.
The makeup is fluid, costume on point and color well balanced. Not to forget the lighting, camera angles and smooth scene transitions – this is the work of a professional.
Fille’s excited manager/Hubby Mc Kats who recently proposed to her on live TV says official video premiere will be in Guvnor come next weekend.Check out the screen shots below and video here
