We all know Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is one of the biggest stakeholders in the entertainment industry and we’ve seen them cancelling shows because artistes and events organisers fail to abide by their rules but among those artistes whose concerts have been going on smoothly is Gravitty Omutujju. You might say having had concerts at freedom city which is considered an in-door stadium has helped him not to cross paths with KCAA but recently, he had his concert at cricket Oval and things went on smoothly.
However, the moment he misbehaved at Kololo airstrip during the KCCA charity concert that had Diamond Platinumz as the lead artiste, Gravity’s music career ‘could have ended’.
Gravitty the new self-styled Luga-flo king while on stage threw jibes at Jennifer Musisi the Executive Director and her entire team at KCCA, blaming them of not being patriotic. This was after they paid Diamond Platinumz shs165m to perform while all Ugandan artistes combined were paid shs20m.
After stepping off the stage, someone, probably an official in KCCA assured Gravity that he will ‘never have a concert in Kampala’ ever again.
In retaliation, Gravity told the official that he is not scared of their threats and how he can stage performances without the jurisdiction of KCCA, in places like Kyotera, Masaka, Mbarara and Fortportal among others.
“Uganda is so big and Kampala is not the only place I can sing from. I can sing from other districts and still people embrace me,” Gravitty was heard bragging and his argument might be based on the fact that, he sells out shows during his tours upcountry.
We are not yet sure who will emerge victorious between the two parties but it looks like a stalement at the moment with Gravitty looking like the favourite to emerge victorious.
