For the first time ever, a Ugandan radio station has decided to award the top musician who has received the most requests in a year.
Galaxy FM last Monday held a small event at their base in Kansanga where they awarded Sheebah Karungi for getting the most requests last year. The Team No Sleep artiste spent 37 record weeks at number one with her ‘Nkwatako’ track hence emerging the number one song out of the 102.
“Every year, we do a top 102 songs of the year. We base this countdown on how popular the songs were that year mostly through airplay and requests. For 2016, the reigning Zzina Awards female artiste of the year Sheebah took, closely followed by Ziza Bafana’s ‘Tuli majje,” Innocent Nahabwe, the station director said.
Sheeba received the award that was in form of CD plates alongside fellow TNS member Roden Y and other Sheebaholics.
She thanked Galaxy Fm for always playing her songs and being one of the stations to believe in her.
Galaxy FM considers itself the number one urban youth station in the country and prides in playing dance music with Uganda taking the lead.
