Hellen Lukoma has slowly etched her name into the depths of the fashion realm. The former Obsessions and HB Toxic member has been around the industry, first modeling for compatriot Brenda Nambi, then taking the leap to become a designer with her own brand, House of Lukoma. On Thursday 10th of this month, she will be launching her third edition of Genesis Fashion, the Genesis Red Fashion Show, a pure fashion event at Cayenne Restaurant and Lounge in Bukoto.
“Genesis is strictly fashion. It is not about music or comedy, but fully fashion and clothes” Lukoma told Chano8 in an interview.
This time, the pieces on display will be a product of 100% Ugandan thread and needle work. The material will be bought here, and the hands to put it together will be Ugandan too.
“We shall be presenting Ugandan work. The clothes will come from zero to something that can be worn, but passing through Ugandan designers’ hands” she added.
To ably do this, she has a team of six designers, including K.Raphael of Mavuno Yetu and Martha Jabo, who recently featured in the Swahili Fashion Week. Others will be Beryl Couture, Thirty and Eye B.
Lukoma’s pieces cater for all sizes, and she reveals that some plus size models will grace the runway. She says she prefers plus size, because they are easy to relate to, considering she makes pieces for people to wear and not just artistic previews.
A string of celebrities is expected to be at the event, like Navio, Exodus, Judith Heard, Salvado, and there will be performances from Lillian, Raba Daba, and more.
Tickets go for 30,000/=, exclusively at the entrance. Gates will open at 6pm.
