Kampala Serena Hotel was all glowing last night at The Qwela Junction thanks to Fenon Records for the fantastic lighting and stage production at the Guitar Maestros 2 by Qwela. The sound was tuned to perfection too ready for the live action.
And a star-studded cast of Charmant Mushanga, Ian Busingye, Kaz Kasozi Myko Ouma and Maurice Kirya did not disappoint with their performances. They let their guitars do the talking most of the time in a special night dedicated to the string-instrument.
Congolese-born guitarist Charmant Mushanga who has been recently touring some parts of Europe has become a darling of many especially after his Mutiima hit collaboration with hip-hop star Keko and performed some of his songs off the upcoming Afro-Soul album ‘In Africa’.
Young talented guitarist Ian Businge joined Charmant by playing the tunes with his teeth as Charmant plucked the strings to the armament of the fans who enjoyed all the movements of majik as they kept mixing it up with strange moves that involved one playing the other’s guitar.
The crowd was also also thrilled by saxophonist Maureen Rutabingwa who also belted sweet melodies to the excitement of the fans. Maureen Rutabingwa and Joe Apuuli Kahirimbanyi performed with the full backing of Qwela Band who was at their best with Roy Kasita keeping the rhythms flowing on the drums.
Maurice Kirya just wrapped it up with some ‘Mwooyo’ tunes as he performed his new hit song ‘Busabala’ live for the first time drawing wild cheers and goose bumps on the ecstatic fans who kept singing along. The two and a half hour unique concert drew to a close at close to 11pm as the crowd left reluctantly yearning for more.
