Last weekend, Saturday 28th October saw Malengo Foundation, a youth inspired and youth led organization hold a fashion show in Entebbe dubbed Hot Pink Catwalk Charity Fashion Show. This took place at Imperial Mall in Entebbe and was a sight to behold as it was entirely unlike other fashion shows. This show saw models with disabilities showcasing a number of fashion outfits and collections from top and upcoming Ugandan fashion designers.
Some of the fashion designers and their fashion collections showcased were Karma Victoria, Teeto Afrika’s Feel the African Touch collection, Jacky Emihunde Live Free collection, Elijah Macquinn’s Free and Empowered collection, Cissy Nagawa’s African Foot wear, Journey Steps Collection by Muyomba Julius, Just Kat Wear, Doris Sabiiti’s Sparkle Collection, Y&Y Fashions’ Blossom Collection, Umuringa Designs by Linda, You Don’t Say I Say Collection, Chatimar Fashion, Curiosity Arc’s Out of the box collection and Kori House of Couture Designers.
The event was hosted by Malaika Nnyanzi and Martin Lubwama and themed Breaking Myths, Leave No One Behind. There were exciting performances by disabled people including Slash Dancers and Utta Konvitz Dance Group. It was organized in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and the guest of honour was Mr Wangusa Micheal from United Nations. It was sponsored by The United Nations Uganda, Imperial Group of Hotels, NBS Television, Silk Events Uganda, Radio City 97fm, O’s VIP Lounge Entebbe, Rosemary Courts Hotel Uganda, Easy Ticket Uganda, Identity Co Ltd, Joram Model Management and Photo4Fashion.
Crowned off by a speech from the Michelle Omamteker, the Executive Director of Malengo Foundation, she emphasized the need for inclusive development so as to enable every individual in society realise their full potential. The final collection showcased was the Hot Pink Catwalk which featured designs from Brenda Maraka, K Rafael, Martha Jabo, Kai’s Divo and Iguana Kampala. The Malengo foundation also launched the Malengo Market, a no bargain market for people with disabilities to be located at O’s Vip Lounge Entebbe.
