Jose Chameleone filled Lugogo Cricket Oval last Friday evening the 30th of June. That is a fact but he didn’t do it like how UB40 did Akon, Wyclif Jean and others but he can pride himself in being the only Ugandan artiste to have done it and for a fee.
The ‘Legend Hit After Hit’ concert was highly anticipated and indeed it lived up to its billing going by the crowd that attended.
DJ Shiru, like he always does kept the crowd on its feet with his mixes. Aziz Azion kicked off the performances with two songs after which Gravity Omutujju came and worked out the crowd with ‘Musomesa’ and ‘Money’ songs.
Pallaso and Ziza Bafana came next before paving way for legendary Afrigo Band who did a live performance of their songs like ‘Maria’, ‘Sikulimba’ ,‘Maria’ among others.
The show had now gained momentum and it became worse when Ghetto President Bobi Wine, the newly elected Kyadondo East Member of Parliament emerged from backstage. People switched their attention from the stage to him yet the emcee had called on Radio and Weasel on stage. They had to wait for the crowd to settle for them to sing. Minutes later, they did songs like ‘Talk and Talk, ‘Nkwetaga’, ‘Nyumbani’, and ‘Ability’ among others.
By this time, 11.20, Chameleone’s voice was heard from backstage, instructing the silk events to darken the stage. A few seconds later, his wish was granted and boom he emerged clad in an ‘Iron Man’ suit and kicked off with the rendition of ‘Nga Bwewakolanga’ of the late singer Elly Wamala, then doing other songs like ‘Katupakase’, ‘Mawoko Na Mawoko’, ‘Shida Za Dunia’, ‘Jamila’, ‘Tingisha’ among others.
However, there is one thing Chameleon failed to manage. Time. With the new rules by KCCA, all events have to come to an end at midnight but having come 20 minutes past 11pm, the ‘Wale Wale’ musician was caught up by time yet he hadn’t performed most of his songs. After pulling a few ropes with the police, Chameleone went thirty minutes into the show but was left discontented.
