Congolese legendary musician Awilo Longomba jetted in the country yesterday ahead of his #AwiloLiveInKampala experience that will take place tomorrow 5th, April, 2019 at Kampala Serena Hotel.
The singer returns to Uganda after two decades following a memorable concert he had in 1999 to usher in the new millennium.
He confessed his love for the country and said he still has fond memores of the last visit he had in Uganda. “I love Uganda. Me and Uganda, we have a big history and I am happy to be back” he told journalists at a press conference organized to welcome him and unveil him officially to the public to confirm the concert.
At the same press briefing held at the Serena Hotel pool side, Vincent Nsubuga of Cents Events who is the man behind the concert said Awilo’s arrival was to clear all doubts and rumours circulating on social media that, the ‘Rosalina’ singer won’t make it for the show.
Awilo’s 11 man band had earlier arrived in the country on Tuesday from Paris in preparation for the show which is expected to attract a big crowd of lingala music lovers and the older generation of music fanatics.
The group that included drummers, dancers, and many others arrived at 10:00pm, and was received by the Cent’s events management. And Awilo confirmed to Chano8 that, this group is the same group he also used to produce his second and most popular 1998 ‘Coupe Bibamba’ Album that was widely appreciated and still loved to date.
A line up of some of Uganda’s top artistes like Eddy Kenzo, Levizone, Cindy, Jackie Chandiru and Congolese guitar maestro and performer Charmant will be the supporting acts for the show.
Asked what Ugandan artistes can do to break on the international scene and also be known out there, Awilo said Ugandan artistes don’t actually need to do much because many stars like Jose Chameleone and Eddy Kenzo are already known and appreciated out there and that they have even met at big international events. He did not divulge into details.
Uganda Breweries Luxury Brand manager Annettte Nakiyaga proposed a toast in honor of the musician to celebrate the partnership the organisers have with Singleton the official sponsors of the event.
