A few days ago, an unknown person opened a fake SK Mbuga Facebook page that has since then gone viral and confused people. Going viral is not because SK Mbuga is a celebrity but because the person who opened it posted and misled the fans that one of SK Mbuga’s cars was going to be given away to a person who likes the page and invites their friends to like it too.
“Like this page as possible as you can share it to your friends am giving out one of my cars to one of you who have liked it and shared to his or her friends, mbuga if I promise I full fill Ugandans know me.” The post on the fake Facebook page read.
On reading this, fans began liking and inviting their friends and the page that was having less than 10,000 likes is now at 28,448 likes by the time we went to press. However, on top of just asking fans to like and win Mbuga’s car, the fake user was using it as a tool to extort money from people thus tarnishing Mbuga’s name and reputation.
For that matter therefore, Mbuga dropped a disclaimer rubbishing the Facebook page and warning his fans that it is a fake account should be careful liking. He also shared screen shots of the page for emphasis.
“Warning ⚠️ warning ⚠️ Don’t fall into a trap, random fake accounts has been opened in my name please be very careful when following them and exchanging your contacts with them. Don’t be a victim” SK Mbuga wrote
On the other hand, the strategy that that person used to drive traffic to his page by using SK Mbuga’s name truly paid because the likes were increasing every passing before SK disclaimed.
