It was glitz and glamour on Friday at luxurious Speke Resort Munyonyo as Airtel FUFA Awards 2018 took place. The event that began as early as 6 pm saw many sports fans flock the hotel.
Despite the strict dress code of an outfit with black tie, many sports fans still enjoyed the night. Newly introduced NTV’s Andrew Kabuura hosted the event which made him the most sought after when it comes to sports events.
As the night progressed with different speeches, Nile Special served the guests with nonstop drinks flow.
The highlight of the night was Cranes and Vipers player Moses Waiswa and UCU Lady Cardinals’ goalkeeper Ruth Aturo who were crowned Airtel-FUFA Male and Female Player of the Year 2018 respectively.
Moses and Ruth almost lost it to tears of joy after their names topped the list. Their families and friends cheered them up throughout the event.
In his emotional speech, Moses said;
“It’s a great day in my football career and the dream has finally come true. I’m very grateful to God because I’m chosen as the best in the country. Life in football is a journey and one can decide to be the best or otherwise. What makes a good player is not only talent but hard work and commitment; now it is time to set new targets for myself club and the national team.”
On the other side, Ruth was full of praises for her supportive family and persistence. She also thanked her managers and coaches who have seen her though.
In her own words, she said;
“I was first nominated in 2016 and finished second, so my second nomination didn’t surprise me. I’m very excited because I worked hard and was determined and focused,”
Ruth is pursuing her Diploma in Business Administration and Management studies at Mukono-based UCU.
Moses and Ruth majestically drove away in new Toyota Mark 11 Grande that was fueled by Post Bank with up fuel worth ugx 500,000 each.
Another notable Winner was former FUFA president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa who scooped the FUFA presidential Award. After winning the award, Mulindwa immediately called for unity so that all stakeholders can chase one goal of developing football.
FUFA President Moses Magogo was full of praises for President Museveni. He categorically thanked Mr. Museveni for the endless support he has given to football and for creating a conducive environment that has enabled the game to prosper. He also thanked the external sponsors and other stakeholders for their full support.
Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi was the guest of honor. In her brief speech, she called upon parents to let their children do sports and promised government to continue being in full support of Sports in the country.
The event was organized by Kibbo Media and singer Geosteady entertained the guests.
All the other nominees also walked away with cash ranging from sh300, 000 to sh1m.
