Joel Sebunjo is arguably the most internationally accepted Ugandan artiste-and there is a reason why. To be known globally, your trends have to become a legacy, and Sebunjo has attained that.
Come Thursday 9th June 2016, the instrumentalist will be out to flaunt that legacy in the ‘Joel Sebunjo Live In Concert’ at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
The 32-year old will walk onto stage, harnessing his darling instrument, the Kora. He is confident that with the Kora, he cannot go wrong.
“I can do anything with the Kora. I can play jazz and I can sing to it. The Kora and I have a special story, it is a very special instrument” Sebunjo exclusively told Chano8.
This time, a name to reckon with sits in the field of guest artiste. It is not other than West African virtuoso of the Balafon, the legendary Aly Keita from Mali.
Him and Sebunjo have been close friends for a while, performing together at 8 international concerts in the last one year. Joel Sebunjo talks of him with high regard.
“He is a colleague and friend of mine. He is one of the best players of the Balafon worldwide. I called him here to share this stage with me, because I love playing with him” Sebunjo added.
The multi-instrumentalist also promises a memorable event, and he is sure there is something about it that the fans will enjoy. He intends to bring in a touch of different professionalism and different music. To many he may be new, but he says those who know him will experience “the usual Sebunjo standard”.
The Kora maestro will be back to Uganda, after traversing different parts of the world like France, Belgium and West Africa. He has performed well over 10 concerts in Uganda in the last 10 years, and this one is set to be his 13th.
