Big names from Uganda Jose Chameleone, Maurice Kirya and Jackie Chandiru are representing the region in the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
AFRIMA is a combined effort to recognize and award, promote and preserve Africa’s rich music culture. And has this year done a series of activities as a build to the main Award ceremony slated for November 9th 2014.
The 2014 Nominees’ List of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, was unveiled on September 23, 2014 during a world press conference held at Protea Hotel Leadway, Maryland Estate, Lagos, Nigeria. The list is divided into regional and continental categories
And our stars are vying in the regional categories where they are representing Eastern Africa. The Awards are based on AFRIMA’s core values of FACE IT –Fairness, Authenticity, Creativity, Excellence, Integrity and Transparency.
Jackie was nominated in the Best Female Artiste Eastern Africa category for her song ‘Champion’. She will be tussling it out with the likes of Kaz and Size 8.
While Jose Chameleone nominated for ‘Tubonge’ will compete with Mauryce Kirya nominated for ‘The Blue Dress Song’ the category of Best Male artiste Eastern Africa region. Others are Kidum and Diamond Platinmuz
Among other well-known African music names on the nominees list are: Mafikizolo (South Africa, Davido (Nigeria) Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania) Amr Diab (Egypt), Zahara (South Africa, Angelique Kidjo (Benin Republic), Fally Ipupa (DRC), Sakordie (Ghana), Tiwa Savage (Nigeria), Uhuru (South Africa) and Mi Casa (South Africa)
Whereas 31 of the 33 award categories will be open for voting by the public, the AFRIMA Legend Award and the Africa Entertainment/Music Journalist Award will be decided by the International Committee of AFRIMA and announced at the main awards ceremony.
The online voting is already open for the next five weeks where fans can vote for their favourite artists by logging onto www.afrima.org , to view the nominees in the 30 categories of the award and vote for their favourite artiste (s).
