Jose Chameleone was supposed to be one of the big names at Saturday’s Club Mega Fest in Namboole but decided to travel to South Sudan for a concert in Green Rocon Juba over the weekend Courtesy of One Nation Entertainment. The organizers of the Mega Fest did not give an explanation as to why he did not show up, but sources say he had received some good offers from promoters in South Sudan and decided to go.
While on the other side, some observers claim he was taking advantage of Bebe Cool’s fight with South Sudanese to win new fans after the Gagamel boss posted his views about foreigners being expelled from South Sudan on facebook. Bebe Cool in his post banned all Sudanese from attending his concerts effective 5th October – the date set by Sudan government for foreigner to leave their jobs for the locals and go back to their respective countries .This annoyed some South Sudanese and he received a backlash from them and even some sent him death threats.
So When the DJ played Chameleone’s ‘Wale wale’ on Saturday, the fans in Nambooles screamed and got excited in anticipation of a grand performance from the Leone Island boss. However their hopes faded away slowly as the local stars on the line up got fewer and fewer. And when the international stars started performing, led by Patra, the hopes dimmed out and eventually turned into frustration after Bebe Cool completed the performances from the local stars. Chameleone was nowhere to be seen.
This is not the first time the self confessed music doctor is not showing up for a concert he is booked for. Mitala Malia Church’s Priest, Father Edward Bwanika dragged the celebrated ‘Valu Valu’ singer to court over failing to turn up for the show after pocketing 4Million. Last year fans turned rowdy when he also failed to perform at the Caribbean Bar & Restaurant in Gulu with angry fans destroying property worth millions.
Club later issued a statement explaining the no show of Mafikizolo and Chamelone
“It was also unfortunate that our own Chameleon was unable to perform. He was unable to secure return transportation from a gig in South Sudan.”
Although some critics believe the ‘Badilisha’ hit maker is also using this as a strategy to get publicity ahead of his One man, one million concert slated for December 18th at Kampala Serana Hotel. Meanwhile Maro and Sheebah put up good performances and received rapturous cheers from the fans. Coco Finger, Gravitty Omutujju and Bebe Cool also did a good job on stage.
