Juliana Kanyomozi Is ‘Still Here’

  • Juliana has been a music icon in Uganda for a long time but has been silent for some time now
  • She made a serious come back by dropping ‘I’m Still Here’ off her I’m Still Here album
  • She was last active on the entertainment and social scene when she took part in ‘Tubonga Naawe’ project to campaign for President Yoweri Museveni

Well, we had surely taken ‘forever’ without hearing from super Ugandan diva Juliana Kanyomozi. And now the song bird made a mega come back when she finally dropped the audio and video for the ‘I’m Still Here’ tune she had earlier alone announced.

Juliana who first disappeared from the music scene for close to 3 years is a darling of many and a veteran in the entertainment industry after her golden voice lifted her to the top of the music charts for close to 2 decades. However, her silence following the death of her son Keron Raphael Kabugo was starting to worry some sections of her fan base across East Africa but all that is history.

About the audio

‘I’m Still Here is yet another song Juliana sings in English but this time around not in RnB but she puts a Reggae feel to it. It is an inspirational tune that can comfort the ‘broken hearts’ and it tells her story of how she has been through lots of ups and downs in the music industry including losing her son Keron (RIP) but she is still strong.

Lyrics like “Situations come and go, whatever does not kill you makes you stronger, although I walk through the valley of death I fear no evil, It does not matter if I rise or fall because I know there is a mighty God behind me and I have been through the fire and the jungle” clearly tell the hard times she has been through but she is still here and going nowhere.

The video

Shot and directed by Justin Campos, the 3 minutes and 16 seconds video shows Juliana in what looks like her house where we see her in the sitting room, kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, gallery and gym. It all begins with a shot of her clad in a ‘Kikoi’ (A distinctive East African striped cloth with an end fringe worn around the waist) and a vest sitting on a bed in the kitchen although we don’t understand why.

More scenes show her scrubbing the house’s floor before she later relaxes in the sitting room while reading the bible. It is noticed that she is the only person throughout the entire video with more scenes continuing to show her doing the laundry work like mopping the house and ironing cloths. Without forgetting her taking a shower in a bath tab.

In one of the concluding scenes, she is appears wearing the Miss Uganda sash standing in a room full of accolades while whining her wait gently before the video coming to a conclusion with a shot of her dressed like a princess of some kingdom, seated on a chair in a gallery.

Conclusion

The video depicts the Ugandan culture where we see Juliana clad in a Kikoi and an African head wrap but shortly after the release of the video, some people are saying that she copied Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Ain’t Your Mama’ video concept but we shall leave that for you the reader to judge.
