Rapper Kanye West has been admitted at UCLA Medical Center on Monday and he is being treated for “exhaustion. The decision to hospitalize West came after Los Angeles police responded to a disturbance call that afternoon.
This comes after West’s concert promoter, Live Nation, announced earlier Monday that the remaining dates of his Saint Pablo Tour had been called off. On Saturday, West showed up late for his concert in Sacramento, California, performed just two songs, then spoke at length about more of his political views. West’s mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, spoke to the news magazine Extra about his condition on Monday night. “He’s exhausted. He’s just really tired,” Jenner said. “He’s had a grueling tour and it’s been a grind, so he just needs to rest.”
LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said the fire department responded to “an unspecified medical aid request” in the 900 block of North Laurel Avenue. “An adult male, described as medically stable, was taken to an area hospital for further assessment,” he said.
After initially refusing to go to the hospital, Kanye allegedly reluctantly checked into UCLA Medical Center for ‘severe sleep deprivation.’ Law enforcement sources confirmed he was hospitalized for his own health and safety. Sources say Kanye tried to resist being transported to the L.A. hospital and had to be handcuffed to a gurney in transit.
Rapper 9th Wonder tweeted: “Been knowing the brother upwards of 13 years. Mental healing is a serious thing, no matter what. Stay strong Kanye West.” US actor and comedian Ronald Funches wrote: “I wish Kanye West love and support through his journey. Mental health is no joke and a constant battle and I hope he makes more dope music.”
