This year’s edition of the Kampala Restaurant Week has been the best and most exciting one ever since the inauguration of the showpiece four years ago with over 40 restaurants participating in providing creative food services to customers.
The Kampala Restaurant Week (KRW) is an annual restaurant showcase that celebrates fine dining at an affordable price in which over 40 participating restaurants offer pre-fixed menus for a limited time with menus offered to all guests including walk-ins. Since inception the event has expanded to the towns of Entebbe, Jinja and Mbarara.
After almost ten days of mouth-watering dishes bringing different culinary experiences across the city (and parts of Jinja and Entebbe), Kampala‘s biggest restaurant showcase ended in style with a lavish dinner to crown the best participating restaurants at the KURB in Kisementi Kamwokya.
After the KRW treated thousands of Uganda’s food enthusiasts to a variety of dishes at the best restaurants it was time to wind it up all with an award ceremony to recognize and reward the best and most creative that made the biggest impression on foodies.
The event which was organised by Pearl Guide in partnership with Tusker Lite kicked off on August 1 and ran until August 11 and featured Chobe Safari Lodge as a holiday partner.
“The year’s edition has been the most successful on our part as organizers and as some of the participating restaurants will testify, has also been the most profitable terms of orders. We tank our sponsors and partners for this. We are looking forward to an even bigger one come next year” Said Pearl Guide’s Philip Kalibwani at the closing ceremony.
The winners of the Kampala Restaurant Week winners were selected by members of the public and a body of judges. And include; Kaveli restaurant in the category of Outstanding Service award, Olives restaurant were the big winners of the night going away with both the Innovation award and the Top casual dining award, better known among the Kampala Restaurant Week enthusiasts as the ‘best dish of the week’ award, while the Top Signature Dining award went to La Cabana restaurant.
“This week has been a rollercoaster of festivities; an unforgettable experience. For the winners tonight, I salute you thank you for taking part. It was amazing doing this with all of you,” said Grace Namutebi, UBL Premium Beer Brand Manager.
The evening also saw guests treated to some of the sumptuous meals with free beers flowing courtesy of Uganda Breweries’ premium beer Tusker Lite. The evening then climaxed with a cook-off between top chefs from La Cabana and Olive’s they displayed some of the skills that have put their respective restaurants on top.
