A group of twelve artistes knelt before the President last weekend in Munyonyo when they hosted him for a dinner where he also pledged Shs. 400Million for their Sacco.
But the new debate on social media is that, the action (of kneeling) of top artistes Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone, Juliana Kanyomozi, Irene Namubiru, Hajji Haruna Mubiru, Rema Namakula, Mun G, King Saha, Radio and Weasel, Pr Bugembe and some others was so wrong as it portrayed desperation on thier part.
Below are some of the reasons why we believe the move was well calculated for their allegiance to the big man.
The move was initiated by Dr. Jose Chameleone who by now is no stranger to making news. The Leone Island boss wanted to show not only the President but also the general public that, he still has some control and influence over the rest of the musicians. He was the first to get on his knees and was heard telling the others to follow suit.
As some people are criticizing this move, others are just appreciating it especially those who grew up in a traditional way of appreciating while kneeling regardless of the sex.
Ugandan artistes are known to make news in every aspect and they seize any opportunity that comes by. They knew that at some point, some media houses wiould take that news angle as others are concentrating on the money and copy right law issues that popped up.
Lastly, Ugandan artistes always kneel before their audiences during concerts and album launches so there is no need to crucify them for kneeling before Museveni who had pledged to give them 400million shillings. Besides many people including politicians have also done it before especially when soliciting for some things from the president.
