Retired Lieutenant General Henry Tumukunde is currently nursing a wound he sustained early morning today following a reportedly forceful need to access the tally centre of the Western Uganda Youth member of parliament elections at Kagote SDA hall in Fort Portal. This all comes after he joined his son Amanya Tumukunde in campaigns for one of the highly contested seats as Western Youth Member of parliament.
While speaking to media, The Regional Police Commander for Rwenzori West, Denis Namuwoza said after the incident. “When he was denied entry at the gate at 1:00 am (Today morning), he assaulted a security officer in uniform and also drew a gun at him. This prompted the police to throw a tear-gas canister at him and a group of 25 rowdy youth that accompanied him.”
In a related story, we confirmed that Amanya (Tumukunde’s son) lost to Mwiine Mpaka Rwamirama son to Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama in the final poll results. Henry Tumukunde 55 is a senior retired officer in the Uganda People’s defence force (UPDF). Before he retired, he served as the UPDF’s Chief of Personnel and Administration, Chief of Military Intelligence as well as serving as the commanding officer of The UPDF Fourth Division, based in Gulu, Nothern Uganda. We wish him a quick recovery.
