Manchester United Still In 6th After A Watford Win.

  • Manchester United beat Watford 2-0.
  • Martial proves that he is worth being selected on the first team.
  • Jose Mourihno optimistic about joining the top four teams of the league.

After an amazing display of ball discipline and angelic movement, Manchester United still remain in the sixth position on the table. Saturday 11th February was the day that saw a very organized Red Devils side defeat Watford FC 2-0.

Amidst a lot of talk and controversy, José_Mourinho decided to put Anthony_Martial on the starting team. Although to other reporters this seemed like a bad idea considering most critics believe that it would have been safer to maintain the same team that beat Leister City FC, Mourihno made this decision purely based on the work Anthony has been doing during the training sessions.

Juan Mata of Manchester United being congratulated by teammates.

United, now unbeaten in their past 16 Premier League games, took the lead when Martial set up Juan_Mata to finish from close range in the 32 minute of first half and Martial closing the scores in the 60th minute of second half. Watford keeper Heurelho_Gomes then made fine saves to deny Paul_Pogba and Zlatan_Ibrahimović. But Martial, making his first league start since 15 January, sealed victory for United in their last league game for three weeks when he fired home after a driving run.

Victory briefly took United up to fifth, but they finished the day back in sixth after Liverpool FC’s 2-0win over Tottenham Hotspur

Jose Mourihno hugs Martial after his outstanding performance.

Jose Mourihno had this to say, “It was beautiful. The period before the first goal was amazing. The crowd were so happy and so enthusiastic because the quality, the chances, the beauty, the football, the movement, the chances, the saves. It was absolutely amazing. It would have been a football crime if we didn’t score a goal in that period. We scored and it was an important goal for our confidence. It was a little bit of a sense of relief, arriving at half-time winning.”

“We could kill the game with more goals but we didn’t so I thought, if we don’t kill it one way, by scoring a third goal, I am killing it by bringing on Marouane Fellaini for stability in midfield; to deal with the direct football to Troy Deeney and Stefano Okaka. We did very well and it was very much deserved.”

With such consistency, Manchester United could easily find itself in the top four positions of the league, but its still left up to the mathematics, if the top four teams suffer anymore losses and the Red Devils win they will go straight to 2nd position.
