Organisers of the annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari concert have today announced changes to the event that has become one of the biggest events on the entertainment calendar in Uganda.
The event that has in the past 8 editions taken place at Kampala Serena Hotel, will now be held at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Jinja Road and ticket prices have been sliced from 200,000/- to 130,000/- for Gold and VIP tables have been reduced from 3,150,000 to 2,500,000/- with domes to be erected on the turf to replicate the indoor feel of Serena “to maintain our usual class and hospitality for all the fans”.
Internationally recognized Reggae Superstar Maxi Priest, Saxophonist Jackiem Joyner and Trumpeter Lin Rountree a.k.a The Soul-Trumpeter will be the headline acts for The 9th Annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari, to be held on Saturday, 8th October, 2016 which will be on the eve of Uganda’s Independence.
Other headliners include, Saxophonist Jackiem Joyner also known by the stage name Lil Man Soul is an established contemporary jazz – R&B instrumentalist and Soul-Jazz Trumpeter Lin Rountree whose music represents a new direction in instrumental soul.
According to TShaka “Roots” Mayanja, founder and CEO of Jazz Safari, this year’s edition will be all about Jazz-Funk and Lovers Rock, attendees can look forward to a line-up that has a Reggae offering. “Each year, our priority is to create artistic experiences that are representative of the diverse nature of the genre, creating new layers of the jazz landscape.”
Another notable change is that local talent will this time round be introduced to beef up the international cast as they will be given a chance to showcase their talents and take advantage of the massive opportunity sharing the big stage with internationally renowned stars.
Although the changes got Jazz and soul enthusiasts talking on social media, the debate has been mostly centered on change of venue with some skeptics doubting whether it is the right move as the event has always been considered a classy gathering that attracts only the A-listers who prefer the comfy ambiance provided by the 5-Star Serena Hotel.
Some observers have also fronted the fat that Nile Gold Jazz Safari recently contributed a massive sponsorship package to the Cricket Union as a reason for the move. We’ll keep you in tabs just in case we get more details on the changes.
