The first ever edition of ‘The Pearl Of Africa Fashion Awards were launched officially this morning at a press briefing in Sky Beach at Freedom City where the gala will take place. The organisers have already announced massive prizes besides the shinny trophies for the winners in form of cash although the amount was not disclosed to the media.
With the organisers mainly targeting local talent in the country, Debby Kagisha, the Pearl Of Africa Fashion Awards(PAFA) spokesperson said that, unlike other fashion awards, these awards will mainly shine a spotlight on local fashion designers across the country to nurture and promote them.
“The Pearl Of Africa Fashion Awards are about involving Ugandans and uplifting local talent in the fashion industry.” She stated.
There are several categories that will be showcased come D-Day and all winners in the respective categories will walk away with some cash besides the Award which will be a big boost for those aiming to carry on fashion related projects as a career.
After the unveiling ceremony, those interested in participating were advised to get busy with submitting their entries in the 28 main categories up for grabs which includes the award for Most Fashionable Campuser, Best Fashion Event Host, Best Use of Social Media, Best Graphics Designer, Best Fashion Photography Studio among others.
To spread it out country wide, there organisers have also introduced special regional categories for Best Fashionista, Best Stylist and Best Fashion Designer in East, West, North and South regions respectively.
The overall winners will be announced at glamorous award gala slated for 2nd December at SkyBeach which will be hosted by Actor and Radio presenter Roger Mugisha who was also present during the unveiling this morning.
