As the world gears to celebrate International Women’s Day on Thursday 8th March, several activities have been organised by different organisations to mark the day and in a special way celebrate women.
International Women’s Day seeks to celebrate women’s achievements, as well as act as a catalyst for change when it comes to gender equality.
Metroplex Shopping Mall in Naalya has joined the rest of the world in organising up something special too in line with this year’s International Women’s Day theme #PressforProgress which has been observed for over 100 years now around the world.
A blood donation drive organised by the management of the mall is on the cards to save lives of Ugandans especially those of women during this period where a chronic shortage has hit the country.
According to the Metroplex, International Women’s Day is a day we get to celebrate the acts of courage of ordinary women by reflecting upon the progress made over the years. Today’s women have excelled in all areas ranging from household to politics and management.
“If they can manage the household with ease so can they scale the highest summit or even travel to space. The day also calls to action acts for accelerating gender parity”. They said in a statement.
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,” says world-renowned feminist, journalist and social and political activist Gloria Steinem.
Thus, International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level.
The day brings together global governments, women’s organisations, businesses and charities together under the banner of International Women’s Day and is usually marked with talks, performances, rallies, networking events and marches.
“As Metroplex mall, we chose to celebrate and advocate for the lives of women by carrying out a Blood Drive Donation in order to appreciate the women in our lives that die as result of blood loss during childbirth and also von-Willebrand disease which is another overlooked cause of blood loss due to heavy menstrual bleeding in women”. The statement adds.
Metroplex shopping mall which is strategically located in the middle of a vibrant residential neighbourhood in the National Housing Naalya Estates is adjacent to the Naalya roundabout approximately 20 metres along the Northern Bypass where the donation will take place.
The centre provides a selection of retail and commercial units on both the ground and first level with on-grade ample parking space to the front and rear of the centre.
The blood donation drive which will run from 10:00am-6:00pm, is alsoorganised in partnership with Knight Frank, City Ambulance, Blush, SMS ONE (U) Ltd, The Face Studio and Plascon Paint.
