Well if you still didn’t know, Last night Uganda got a new Miss Uganda who will represent the country at the 65th edition of Miss World 2015 beauty pageant which will be held on 19 December 2015 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China PR.. Miss Nakayiga Zahara Muhammad from Mityana was crowned Miss Uganda 2015/16 in a colourful ceremony held at Kampala Serena Hotel after beating 20 other contestants.
The 23-year old impressed the judges which included Lawyer Anne Abeja, Rehmah Kasule, Juliet Epenu the former Miss Uganda and Moses Matsiko the CEO Pinnacle Security with her confidence and composure as well as brilliance while answering questions. She was also a favourite of many in the crowd who cheered her throughout the pageant and every time she stepped on the runway and her efforts were rewarded with a Brand new car.\
After a gruesome period of preparations 20-year old Miss Wanyana Ritah Engrid became seond runner up while (also Miss Talent) from Kampala while Miss Nabwowe Juliana, 23 years old was First runner up (also Miss Personality) with the audience looking generally satisfied with the outcome which again was theme around Agriculture and value addition.
Aisha Nabukera who was abused as a child and burnt by her step mother emerged as a strong contender at the beginning of the search and made it to the top 10 as she also won the crown of Miss Rising Woman but fell short of confidence during the quiz time as she misfired the question directed at her.
Overall things looked in order although the event kicked off slightly later than planned due to technical challenges faced by the Organisers Miss Uganda/Kezzy entertainment.
But what else did you miss at the Kampala Serena Hotel? Let’s break down the action as it unfolded.
First, there was recorded background information about Miss Uganda in the last 5 years as new organiser Brenda Nanyonzo celebrated 5 consecutive years of running the franchise she acquired from her mentor Sylvia Owori highlighting challenges and achievements as well as future plans.
The evenings MCs KFM’s Roger Mugisha and Peace Menya of Radio City then took over before introducing all the 21 contestants who kicked off the night with a sleazy performance of some sort of Ball room creative dance.
After the ladies concluded strutting their stuff on the Cat-walk with beautiful evening dresses and outfits designed by local designer Lillian Muganga., the regional winners were crowned and then followed by special awards.
The regional winners were Miss Husna Rajab (Miss Uganda North), Miss Diana Nabimanya (West) Bridget Sanyu (East) and Nakiyaga Zahara Muhammad (Central).
The special awards went Miss Safina Nakitende (Miss Beach Beauty), Miss Noeline Naava (Miss Congeniality), Miss Aisha Nabukeera (Miss Rising Woman), Miss Engrid Wanyana (Miss Talent), Miss Patience Akankwaitsa (Miss Sports Queen), Miss Juliana Nabwobwe (Miss Personality), Miss Dimit Hilda Nakiyaga (Miss Popularity) and Miss Loyce Namara (Miss Photogenic).
Roger Mugisha tried to crack the audience with some jokes but could not match the real pro in Alex Muhangi who cracked the audience to bouts of laugher with his jokes about Eddy Kenzo’s BET win and speech as well as the political atmosphere prevailing currently in Uganda.
There were also musical performances from rising stars Lydia Jazmine, A-Pass, as well as Grace Nakimera.
The event which is sponsored by Mirinda ended at close to half past 1.00AM with the handing of the prize car.
