The long awaited NEW DAWN has is finally here as MTN Uganda this morning extended its contract with West Nile Uganda Premier League giants Onduparaka FC for another year worth UGX.300,000,000 following a spell of uncertainty after Betway failed to renew last year.
The announcement which was made this morning at the MTN common room in Nonyi Gardens Kololo after a good relationship was built with the Telecommunications company where they partnered till late last year. After the last contract which is said to have had ‘tremendous benefits’ for both sides ran out, the two parties then opted to a renewal which eventually came to fruition this morning.
Fans of the club have been anxiously waiting for the news for the past few months with many even starting to run out of patience when rival clubs started mocking them because of the old jerseys that were left by the previous sponsor.
The new contract sees MTN become the official shirt sponsors and will dress the Arua-based club for this season till next year. At the event, the new club jerseys were also unveiled to the public with green for home and white for away matches.
The contract sees that the MTN Uganda logo will feature on all the new Kits. MTN will also get content and image rights for players and also get rights to brand at both home and away games.
We’ are thrilled to have renewed our sponsorship with Onduparaka FC. Onduparaka’s consistency, fan base and success in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) remains attractive for our sponsorship package. It was an easy decision for us to renew the sponsorship and become the merchandise sponsors. As a brand, Onduparaka will give us the exposure we need and in turn we will be contributing towards the growth and development of the football club. This will be the first time the MTN Logo will appear at the front of a football kit in the 20-year history in Uganda. MTN’s Senior Brand Manager Mr. Martin Sebuliba said.
With other clubs like Express FC, Vipers and Wakiso Giants penning lucrative sponsorship deals with different brands, Onduparaka FC seemed to be the only one of the top flight clubs left behind as they struggled to keep afloat in the fight for top positions while searching for the much-need financial support.
This therefore comes as a timely relief as the second round of fixtures kick-starts for the big season-ending honors as well as positions on the log. The Club Chairman and co-founder Benjamin Nyakuni noted that the sponsorship will therefore continue to enable the club to keep growing and meet some of its financial responsibilities.
We would not enjoy this much success without the generous support MTN has provided to us throughout. We deeply appreciate the willingness which MTN has and continues to sponsor our efforts towards making our region proud and supporting young people to attain their highest potential through the beautiful game. We thank MTN for having faith in us and seeing the value in associating with the Onduparaka FC brand. We sincerely hope that this association will be maintained in our future endeavors. He said.
Club patron Hon. Bernard Atiku who is also the Ayivu member of parliament, stressed the clubs ambitions to become one of the biggest in not only the country but the whole region. He emphasized that, despite the challenges, the club has emerged as a force to reckon with in the league against all odds.
Onduparaka Football Club has achieved tremendous success against all odds. There were skeptics who thought that we would never become a giant, but we proved them all wrong. Today we pride ourselves as having the biggest sporting brand in the country and aspiring to be one of the biggest in East Africa. One of our long-term objectives is to become a truly continental brand. Forging ties with MTN and their reputation for bringing unmatched technology to sports and innovative marketing takes us a step closer to our goals. We commend MTN for having had the foresight in joining forces with us and thereby making a meaningful contribution in the development of soccer. Hon. Atiku outlined.
