It has been long coming and finally Uganda’s extremely talented RNB, Afro-soul diva Naava Grey had her moment to shine. The former Tusker Project Fame contestant held her first major concert to release her maiden album ‘Naava the Album’.
The 20-track album which was sale at Gatto Matto where she held her first major concert features some of her top songs she did ever since she appeared on the music scene in 2012 like’ Nteredde’ and ‘Soka Lami’ and brand new ballistic songs freshly recorded under her new Multi dollar contract with Rockstar 4000 (RS4K)/Sony a global music label, the Fame Company and FlyCorp Uganda.
And when she kick-started her performance at around 8:00PM, her excited and very loyal fans who started filling the Bugolobi based venue as early as 5:00PM, welcomed her with ululations and sang along word for word during her first session on stage.
The beautiful Naava dressed in a blue free- flowing African evening gown complete with head gear and accessories looked stunningly fresh and also overwhelmed by the support shown by the ardent fans.
The highly Multi-talented singer, songwriter and performer who had promised a music tsunami this year finally had her moment to shine and did not disappoint with her flawless two-hour live performance punctuated by short messages of appreciation to sponsors like Nile Gold and people who have contributed to the growth and development of her music career.
Backed by the highly talented Zanzi Band, the passionate, versatile young artiste who can sing in her native Luganda language as well as English, took her fans through her short but productive music journey with popular songs like ‘Ndiwano’, Nteredde’, ‘I do’, ‘Ninga Omuloge’ and ‘Soka Lami’ receiving wild cheers.
During her show, she also paid tribute to her late Dad whom she confessed would be proud of her if he was alive and thanked her Mom, siblings and other relatives for raising her into the young woman she is today although she had a go at media for reporting falsely about her private life.
Congolese born guitar maestro Charmant Mushaga who was playing lead guitar alongside the Zanzi Band excited fans when he did a live collabo that got the fans mostly corporates and A-listers off their seats as he animated flow with some Congolese rumba tunes. He also performed one of his Afro-pop songs ‘Adonde Ire’ that sent goose bumps onto the crowd.
Other artistes who supported Naava included Rwandese superstars Jodi Phibi and DJ Pius who flew all the way from Kigali and did some beautiful songs during which period Naava took a break to catch a breath. They excited fans as they danced and mixed luganda and Kinyarwanda while thanking the crowd for showing love to Naava.
Others were Shine Omukiga, Naira Ali, Herbert Ssensamba and Zanzi Band who also put up a smooth performance to curtain raise for the now new shining star with Radio City’s Peace Menya the MC for the night.
