The debate on local concerts pulling crowds has always been heated. Especially as concerns the top artists in the country.
Who pulls the most crowd and whose concert has flopped is always a big debate. So when people show up for a concert, it is really a big deal in the entertainment industry as it has less to do with money but more to do with pride and ego now.
So when Navio held his day time Rap show at Kati Kati over the weekend, all eyes were on him with haters and critics ‘expecting’ a flop while some fans fearing for the worst though majority were in buoyant mood to support their icon. But in the end it happened and even with the competition from the Kadanke Beach bash (which pull the same kind of crowd), He still managed to pull a decent crowd and also pull off a good performance.
He had earlier promised to give Ugandans ‘something new’ and indeed he lived up to his promise by giving a platform for young talent which included secondary school children as well as upcoming artists who showcased their talent on the big stage.
In a statement which was released earlier in the month, the ‘Something About You’ star said:
“I’ll be giving an opportunity to schools and young talented artists to shine on stage at my concert. It’s time to give young musicians the opportunity to express their talents on the big stage.”
The show, which started at 1pm had several young rappers from Kololo SS showcasing their skills and featured several established artists like Ruyonga, Benezeri, Don Mc, Lyrical G, Enygma, Cold Music, Fidempa, Peter Miles, The Mith and Cindy.
And when Navio hit the big stage in the historical day concert-a first of its kind in Uganda, he was welcomed by hysterical fans who screamed and cheered him all the way. The ‘Nawulira’ star didn’t disappoint as he gave the fans their money’s worth.
Most of the fans left show ground at around 8:45PM yearning for more. He has now sent a statement thanking them and the sponsors for the show by posting the following.
“I want to thank the fans, Vision Group, Urban TV and XFM, UTL, PEPSI, SMS ONE, TMMG, CHANO 8, M-IDEA and EVENTS WAREHOUSE for making the show a success. A special mention goes out to the artists who came to support! We have conquered new ground and moved to new heights with the music and you all made it possible”.
The question now is, was that a good precedence he has set in the entertainment industry that you think other artists should follow suit? Please give us your opinion on our facebook page here
