The Ugandan music industry is perhaps the biggest loser going by the news we came across that Channel O, which has been pushing our music is soon closing after DSTV announced that they are not making any profits out of it.
The M-Net and Multi-choice TV channel has been pivotal in playing East African more especially Ugandan music because a one Mrs Kasumba from Uganda was the boss.
The channel it is said will be closing in less than two weeks and will be ending their daily programming in the rest of Africa outside South Africa with the Channel O Africa Music Video Awards also to end.
According to one of the source who preferred anonymity, the South African channel was paying millions in royalties to artistes from various African countries yet they made no direct benefit from the same countries.
Some of the artistes to have benefited from Channel O include Radio and Weasel, Navio, Keko, Bebe Cool, Chameleone, Blu 3, Vampino among others with some emerging as winners in the prestigious Channel O Africa Music Video Awards yet others received nominations.
Uganda also had a slot in video mixing where Deejays Aludah and Apeman used to have an hour of mixing East and central music live on air.
