Preparations are in high gear as Onduparaka Football Club fans prepare for a massive end of year Fan Fest scheduled for Saturday 31st at their home ground in Betway Green light Stadium. Excitement is written all over the faces of the fans who have travelled all over the country for the big do which will mainly have activities centred around handing over of funds contributed by the fans for a face-lift of the changing rooms as well as doubling as a charity where they will be‘giving back to the community’ and will conclude with merry making later in the evening.
Onduparaka FC which announced its entry into the local Ugandan football scene by storing the finals of the Uganda Cup last season also has one of the most passionate fans in the whole of East Africa and have been the main driving force behind the success of the team from West Nile which has since followed up the Uganda Cup feat with qualification to top flight football The Azam Uganda Premier League where they comfortably sit third on the log after first round of football played.
The fans also have more cause to celebrate after their star man Muhamad Shaban was voted the Airtel- FUFA Footballer of the year and is on course to feature for the Uganda Cranes in Afcon in Gabon come January 2017.
Many observers have since praised the unity and courage exhibited by the team and their fans with FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo in the lead praising the team also known as ‘The Caterpillar’s for being a good example to other teams and bringing life back to the AUPL ‘without which the league would not be the same’
According to the club Patron Hon. Atiku Benard (Ayivu county) and some organisers www.chano8.com talked to, the day’s program will kick off as early as 7am and will run till 7pm where “fans will be delivering procured items to the children’s ward of Arua hospital while another group engages in the ‘keep Arua’ clean campaign.”
This will be followed by a ‘Bull Roasting session’ for the fans to enjoy free meat as a thank you gesture from management of the team. There will also be a meet and greet with the heroic players who will be without their inspirational captain Shaban, who by press time, was enroute to Tunisia with the national team for international duty.
Other activities will include blood donation drives, exhibitions by local business entities, a message from the management and head coach, as well as handing over of the funds contributed by fans for the face-lift of the stadium.
The fest which is being coordinated by Onduparaka FC fan’s spokesperson Mercy Munduru, will conclude with a mix and mingle session where fans will also engage in fun games including a football match between ‘Arua fans’ and ‘Kampala fans’. The party where fans will pat with 5,000/- as the entry, will then continue into overdrive with entertainment from leading local and regional artistes as well as club ambassador Lilian Mbabazi.
