CAF Confederations Cup : URA FC 2-2 Orlando Pirates (Agg: 3-4)
URA raised hopes of many Ugandans fans after registering a respectable result from South Africa. Although they lost that game 2-1, an away goal they deserved had given the Ugandan side a massive boost against the South African giants heading for the return leg.
However Mpha Makola’s early second half goal and a penalty from skipper Oupa Manyisa for Orlando Pirates was enough to eliminate Ugandan side out of the CAF Confederations Cup in an entertaining game. The game ending 2-2 and eventually 4-3 on aggregate for the away side to progress.
URA dominated the opening half but the home strikers especially Patrick Ochan and midfielder Saidi Kyeyune were wasteful in front of goal and to make matters worse, barely did anything in the second half as the Pirates took control at the Mandela National stadium in Namboole.
Orlando Pirates levelled matters five minutes into the second half through Makola to take charge of the tie after Yasser Mugerwa’s first half strike had given the East African side the lead. Playing behind his usual attacking midfield role, Mugerwa was one of the bright shining stars.
Substitute Frank Kalanda’s added time equalizer turned out to be consolation for the tax collectors with fans blaming poor tactics finishing for the elimination of their team.
