There were fears that the just concluded Africell Ug and Coca Cola powered 4rd edition of Rolex Festival was going to flop for reasons that the previous edition (3rd) was poorly managed, with the other reason being that it was going to a bigger venue than the previous three editions.
People started accessing the venue, Lugogo Cricket Oval by 10AM and by the time it clocked 7PM, more revellers were still queuing outside waiting to enter. Reason could be because entry was a pocket friendly Ug Shs 10,000, 5,000k for children and 30,000 VIP although we have seen events flop with that amount of money as the entry fees.
Inside the venue, vendors were busy preparing different types of Rolex for the big numbers that had attended. A chapati and two eggs with a few other spices was going for Shs 5000 but still Uganda’s favourite snack was on high demand. For those who preferred other options, there was chicken, pork, beef and goats meat while drinks in all types were in plenty.
The VIP section was calm, reserved with few people but general was where the party was with people dancing to every song that played and cheering on every musician that took to the stage to perform. From Sheebah Karungi to Carol Kasita, Feffe Bussi, Cindy, King Saha, Sharon Peyton among others.
After the performances, DJ Andre took to the decks and kept the crowd entertained till 10:00 PM when the event came to a close.
Everyone was in for a surprise as it is so far the most attended event this year with revelers overwhelming the organizers in the process.
“This is too much. We didn’t expect this. The numbers are overwhelming,” Enid Mirembe, the proprietor of the Rolex Festival was heard saying.
